lorries behaving badly?

With the inevitable increase of HGV movements within the village the following information could be of value.

If you are infuriated by lorries churning up verges or following satnav directions along bridleways, you’ll know that there’s not much you can do except fulminate.

However, a local group “Lorries Off Rural Detours”, known as LORD, is now in action seeking constructive ways of reducing inappropriate and unnecessary use of minor roads. You can read about the group at www.lorryproblems.org.uk. It’s already achieved a lot by getting Surrey County Council to take the matter seriously but the next step depends on us.

In order to make things change, specific problems have to be identified and it’s only local residents who can help here.

It’s only if everyone bothers a little bit that we’ll be able to notice a difference

So, if you’ll take the trouble to make note of specific incidents and to report them, you might be able to help to improve our lorry problems.

LORD will arrange for the form to go to Surrey County Council

And don’t forget, when you order deliveries, to spend a minute explaining the most sensible route to your house - which probably won’t coincide with satnav directions.
The drivers don’t like getting into difficulties and will appreciate guidance.
